RAINSTORMS CLAIMS LIVES OF 9 CHILDREN IN NIGER

9 children in Niger have lost their lives due to the collapse of houses cause by very severe rainstorms in the capital Niamey.

As reported by the secretary general of the local authorities, Zourkaleini Maiga, the children were killed as buildings in different parts of the city collapsed. One of the main markets were destroyed, alongside two radio stations, Tele-Sahel and Tal-TV which went off air after the studios got flooded.


The UN warned last month, that the flooding in Niger this year would affect more than 106,000 people.

Last year, it claimed the lives of 50 people and 145,000 people were affected.
