OAU 300 LEVEL STUDENT DIES IN SWIMMING POOL

A Pharmacy student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, named Emmanuel Fatile lost his life in a tragic incident where he drowned in a swimming pool in a hotel outside the University campus.

The 300 level student, on Monday, went to the swimming pool with two of his friends when the incident took place.

The President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), OAU branch, Adeyemi Yusuf, said it was a very painful loss to the association and faculty.

A nursing student in Anambra state has been killed by the deadly and well known Lassa fever, while 65 others are being monitored.

The deceased, who was a student in one private nursing school in Nkpor, Idemili north, was admitted at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, on 11th June,

According to Police reports, an incident occurred in the eastern state of Bihar in India, where a 16 year old girl was raped and thrown out of a moving train.

The heartless act was carried out by a group of six youths, after they abducted her near her home in Lakhisarai district.

According to the Police chief, Ashok Kumar, the girl was sexually assaulted in an isolated spot, before she was forced into a train at the local station. Hours later, she was found on the track, injured and unconscious.

Four minors have brutally murdered 16-year-old Jatin for refusing to call off his relationship with his friend’s cousin despite repeated threats in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala on Friday police have said after arresting the juveniles.

Jatin was found with his throat slit in an abandoned house in Kanjhawala on Friday. He had been tied to a chair using wires and his mouth was taped.

MAN CHARGED FOR SHOOTING OWN DAUGHTER TO DEATH

A man who killed his nine-year-old daughter while giving a lesson to his sons about the danger of guns has been charged over her death.

Olivia Hummel, from Hobart, Indiana in the U.S., died last Saturday after being shot in the head by her dad, Eric, 33, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A 38 year old farmer, Aliyu Adamu, was, on Friday, remanded in prison custody by a Sokoto Magistrate's court, for the murder of one Nura Isiah, whom he stabbed to death.

Aliyu was said to have conspired with two others, Guti Mohammed and Lukman Soja, who are now at large, to carry out the horrible act. According to reports, he went to the deceased shop at Old Market and stabbed him in the stomach, after which he was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, where he was confirmed dead.

"The erosion she was trying to to get across had a high tension wire in it as a result of a pole that fell on Monday, June 12th. The deceased had no idea that there was wire in the water."

7 KILLED, 66 OTHERS INJURED IN CHINA BLAST

A blast near a kindergarten in eastern China today, has killed 7 people and left 66 others injured, including children, according to reports by CCTV.

2 died at the scene and 5 others at the hospital, while 9 are in critical condition. No children or teachers were killed.

A 33-year-old man, Christian Nwokoro, charged with “unnatural offence’’ of attempted sodomy with three minors, was on Thursday remanded in prison by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja.

Nwokoro, a bricklayer, resides at Karmo village in the Federal Capital Territory.

Although the defendant denied committing the offence, the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, refused to grant him bail.

The Igala socio-cultural group has described the inclusion of Igala land as part of Biafra as an insult to the sensibility of the people.

Igala land is in the Eastern part of Kogi state sharing border with Anambra state.

The group at a press briefing in Lokoja on Wednesday said that including Igala land on the paper was not only insulting but also provocative to the Igala race.

LAGOS—The 19-year-old teenager, who was arrested for attempting to kill her two-month-old baby in Ikorodu area of Lagos on Monday, has absconded with the baby again.

Vanguard reported that the teenaged nursing mother, Adebayo Ayomide, gagged the baby, dumped her in a bush in Ikorodu to die and fled to Bariga.

One person was feared dead, while two others sustained injuries, yesterday, in an early morning accident along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

9 children in Niger have lost their lives due to the collapse of houses cause by very severe rainstorms in the capital Niamey.

As reported by the secretary general of the local authorities, Zourkaleini Maiga, the children were killed as buildings in different parts of the city collapsed. One of the main markets were destroyed, alongside two radio stations, Tele-Sahel and Tal-TV which went off air after the studios got flooded.

Boko Haram gunmen killed eight members of a civilian militia force on Sunday, hiding in trees and opening fire as they waited for troops to go on a joint dawn offensive, their colleagues told AFP.
